Seagle Soars with Songs this Summer

Seagle may once again enchant its audiences with live performances.  The colony has a new name, and brighter days this summer, than when its stage was dark last year because of COVID.  Administrators changed the name from Seagle Music Colony to Seagle Festival, to better reflect the community outreach provided by performances from the emerging artists.

You may see highlights of the new season of Seagle shows on Mountain Lake Journal.  Paul Larson hosts the episode, which also features the story of how a mural in Plattsburgh is finally complete, after it remained unfinished for nearly four years.

Mountain Lake Journal airs Sunday morning at 5:30 and 10 am and Monday at 6 pm on Mountain Lake PBS.

Hosting Mountain Lake Journal this week

Enjoy a special episode of Mountain Lake Journal this week.  I chat with author Kate Messner about her latest book for kids, a colorful biography that may get your little ones excited about a career in science.  We'll also explore an art exhibit from a trio of artists.  One of them, painter Peter Hornbeck, sadly passed away before the exhibit opened.   He is famous in the boating community as the creator of the Hornbeck Boat.  The other two artists, photographers Tom Bessette and Daniel Way, offer their insight into the Adirondack Waters theme of the show, as well as thoughts on their friend's recent passing.

This special episode of Mountain Lake Journal airs this Monday at 5:30 pm.

Mother's Day Read: Dive Deep into Mother Daughter Drama

Just in time for Mother's Day and summer reading, author Elisabeth Sharp McKetta discusses her mythological story of a mother and daughter's journey through healing and forgiveness, She Never Told me About the Ocean (2021, Paul Dry Books).  Set on a lush island where magic and myth permeate the atmosphere from an ocean breeze, an 18-year-old discovers the darkest, deadliest depths of the sea as she struggles to swim toward the light.

Spotlight producer Paul Larson and McKetta explore the themes of authorship and inspiration in this insightful chat about her first novel.

McKetta teaches writing for Harvard University and The University of Oxford. She has written books on poetry, writing and a biography of her grandfather, Professor Emeritus John McKetta.
